technésexual

On February 20, 2010 Adzel Slade/Micha Cardenas and ecolalia Azalee/Elle Mehrmand presented technésexual - a hybrid reality performance - simultaneously at East of Odyssey and at the LACE's (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) GUTTED event, curated by Dino Dinco. This video documents the Second Life component with sound coming from Real Life via SL's voice interface.

About technésexual
(from www.transreal.org)
"In technésexual the performers commit playful erotic acts in physical and virtual space simultaneously, using devices to amplify the sound of their heartbeats for the two audiences. An electrocardiogram was used to monitor the heart rate with an Arduino/Freeduino, playing a recording of the heartbeat at the correct rate using Puredata. Temperature sensors modulate the audio based on touch. DIY biometrics are used to bridge realities with audio, finding ways of exploring the space between realities.

technésexual opens discussion on the multitude of sexualities outside of the restrictive LGBT formulation and homo/hetero categories, which are rooted in binary gender assumptions. The mixing of realities in this project can be seen as paralleling our own experiences mixing genders and sexualities, queering new media. Virtual worlds such as Second Life facilitate the development of new identities, allowing for unimagined relations and relationships. technésexual looks closely at these new relationships, how they affect our everyday lives and horizons of possibility."

SaveMe Oh's 3rd RezDay

Saveme Oh invited everyone to her Third RezDay Party. We arrived to find her lying in a glass box - a la Snow WhiteAttendees were confused.

We tried various methods to revive her. The Bride of Frankenstein (Fau Ferdinand) invoked special powers, trying to bring SaveMe around.
Jesus showed up and attempted a miracle.

But he gave up after awhile.
We partied, we cried, we had a moment of silence.
We tried probing her.
The Bride of Frankenstein danced above.

Man Michinaga tried barfing on her while punching her via the offered poseball.
Finally SaveMe's father Cupido Oh showed up. He was not happy. He told SaveMe to stop her nonsense.
She didn't respond.
He tried to beat some sense into her.
But that didn't work either.
Finally Cupido Oh told SaveMe Oh that if she didn't stop right now he would cut off her Second Life. He counted to ten and SaveMe logged off.
Cupido said that he used to be retired but now spends all of his time looking after his crazy daughter SaveMe. Then Cupido told the rest of us the get a life and wandered off muttering to himself. Very sad.

Global Gaming Singalong

Media Artist Joseph DeLappe presented the first ever internet-wide global gaming voicechat singalong on Tuesday January 26th 2010 live on Odyssey Island. The “gg hootenanny!” - a day long festival featuring songs of freedom and protest - was presented in celebration of the release of his avatar, MGandhi Chakrabarti, from a nine-month imprisonment/durational reenactment on Odyssey in Second Life. Avatars from many online communities joined in to sing, dance and party with Gandhi, his all star band and guests. The Avatar Orchestra Metaverse made a special appearance.
Pictured below: the Pope, Prince Charles and Wonder Woman rock out on "Kill the Poor" by the Dead Kennedys. All photos by Bibbe Oh.
Watch some video documentation of avatars joyously singing the Beatles' "All You Need is Love" during the hootenanny - see more on the gg hootenanny blog

The gg hootenanny event was the completion of a nine-month durational performance on Odyssey by Joseph DeLappe. The final day began with MGandhi's early morning jail breakout by the Second Front. Using jackhammers, drilling devices, explosives and other machinery the Second Front collapsed the walls of the prison cell. Once Gandhi was released the partying began and lasted throughout the day. There were special appearances by many famous avatars. After visiting with scores of well wishers and performing at three multiple reality singalong sessions the MGandhi Chakrabarti avatar ascended from Second Life forever.
